One of the great things about a kitchen is that it can be completely customized to fit your style and needs. Unless you’re looking at an off-the-shelf model, chances are that there will be some sort of compromise when it comes to size or layout in order to accommodate your desired features.
However, there are certain kitchen layout mistakes common in many homes which may make cooking difficult. The following article discusses by italian living room furniture sets and how to avoid them in your next kitchen remodel.
1: Limited Storage:
Ensure sufficient storage space for all appliances, cookware and utensils by pushing back cabinetry from the perimeter walls and working from smaller areas toward larger ones (i.e., placing tall cabinets at the back of the kitchen and shorter ones near the entrance).
2: Poor Seating Arrangement:
Ensure that seating is not too close to plumbing fixture or other appliances, ovens, etc. where it can interfere with operation or cause accidents.
3: Unsightly Viewing Area:
Keep a clear view-path from the front to the back of your kitchen by grouping cabinets together rather than scattering them around. Avoid placing tall items in front of lower cabinetry which may block visibility into upper cabinets.
4: Difficult Placement for Trashcan or Recycling Bin:
Make sure trashcans are easily accessible for all members of your household (if necessary, keep one under each sink) and that recycling bins are out of the way (if necessary, place them on counter tops or large shelves).
5: Poor Lighting Placement:
Place task lighting (i.e., under-cabinet lights) on either side of kitchen work areas rather than directly over head. This will help prevent shadows and glare on your workspace.
6: Difficult Access to Electrical Outlets:
Make sure that electrical outlets are easily accessible without any obstructions by cabinets, drawers, etc. Also ensure that they are placed near where appliances need to be plugged in for convenient use.
7: Lack of Smartspace Storage Arrangement/Accommodation
Ensure that cabinetry is able to accommodate. All large appliances by pushing them back from the perimeter walls and working from smaller areas toward larger ones. Placing tall cabinets at the back of the kitchen and shorter ones near the entrance).
8: Poor Lighting Arrangement
Place task lighting (i.e., under-cabinet lights) on either side of kitchen work areas rather than directly over head. This will help prevent shadows and glare on your workspace.
9: Wrong Sink Placement/Configuration
Ensure sinks are place away from high traffic paths to avoid accidents, particularly if children are in your household. Avoid having more than one double-sink in a kitchen unless your cabinetry can accommodate multiple large appliances.
10: Wrong Appliance Placement
Make sure that ovens are place in an easily accessible location near the counter tops, not underneath upper cabinets or out in the middle of nowhere where you have to move other appliances just to use them. Refrigerators should be locate close enough to the sink for convenient access but not so close that they block traffic flow or impede open cabinet doors from closing properly. * These are common mistakes made when designing kitchens with built-in appliances rather than free-standing models.
